Glacial Park Personal Challenges

If you've read my blog, you know I like to get out and hike every day, I consider it one of the perks of being a small business owner. And necessary to keep my energy up and my weight down.

I set small challenges for myself, such as, in the spring I could not climb this .25 mile hill without stopping to catch my breath (aka almost passing out):

Today I was able to power walk right up it with only a bit of heavy breathing. Plus, this was the last leg of my quickie 3 mile hike today (I try to do between 4-7 miles a day, depending on time/weather). The next challenge is to run up the hill. Then run up it twice. And so on. It was so worth the climb, as it always is:

If you're a Glacial Park hiker, don't forget your bug spray. I spray down before hiking and carry a little pocket sized spray bottle with me, I fill one of my empty containers with bug spray. As I sweat, I find I need to re-apply as the bugs are aggressive and hungry here in Northern Illinois:

And when I'm done hiking, I flip my hair upside down and do a quick scalp tick check. I'm usually moving too fast for anything to catch me, I use bug spray and I avoid low hanging branches, but I prefer to check every time.
